WHY THIS EXISTS
The Quiet Things That Matter
Chris Checks In grew out of two things I was already experiencing in everyday life — helping my own parents as they got older, and years spent owning an ice cream shop where conversation and community became part of everyday life.
I’m the youngest of eight kids, and even with several of us living nearby, there were still times when it was hard to get over and help with the small things around a home that start to pile up.
Like changing the smoke detector batteries before they start chirping. Hanging the picture that was a gift. Putting down the two bags of mulch to refresh the garden. Setting up the iPad so Grandma can FaceTime the grandkids.
I heard my mom often say,
“I don’t want to bother you kids with something so small. I know you’re busy.”
At the same time, I noticed something at the ice cream shop.
Some people simply miss regular conversation and interaction in their day. The number of times someone would sit beside me and just want to talk for a few minutes was countless.
Honestly, I loved those conversations.
That combination — consistent help with real human connection — is really what Chris Checks In is about.
